Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, also known as "the Underwear bomber," is a Nigerian-born terrorist who unsuccessfully attempted to bring down an airplane flying from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to Detroit, Michigan, on December 25, 2009, using a bomb he smuggled in his underwear. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed to have radicalized Abdulmutallab and provided him with the explosives. He was restrained by other passengers after he managed to light a wall of the plane and his own pants on fire. He was sentenced to life in prison in February 2012.
