Ahmad Khan Rahimi

Ahmad Khan Rahimi (b. 1988) is an Afghan-born U.S. citizen who detonated two pipe bombs in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City on September 17, 2016, injuring 30 people. He placed a third bomb in New Jersey along the route of the Seaside Semper Five Marine Corps Charity 5K race. Police also found six additional improvised explosive devices in a backpack, one of which detonated as a robot attempted to disarm it. Rahimi was located by police and shot several times before being subdued. Rahimi had been radicalized by ISIS and committed the attacks in support of the group. He also reportedly attempted to radicalize other inmates while in jail awaiting sentencing. Rahimi was sentenced to life in prison in 2018.
