Taqiyya/Taqiya/Takiya

An Islamic doctrine which is frequently the subject of misinformation promoted by anti-Muslim bigots, as part of their false claims about the alleged threat that Islam and Muslim people pose to Western societies. They claim that this doctrine allows Muslims to routinely decieve non-Muslims in order to advance their goals. In fact, the word translates to "prudence" and refers to a passage of religious text that allows Muslims to forgo religious duties when publically appearing to be Muslim might threaten their lives or safety.
