Red pill/Redpilling

The red pill, or redpilling, refers to almost any kind of political awakening. It is not always used in an extremist context, but when it is, it means one has bought into at least one trope of the far-right movement. Most "pill" references within right-wing and online spaces harken back to the 1999 blockbuster movie "The Matrix," in which Neo is offered a chance to see the world the way it really is by taking a "red pill."
