Palestine Liberation Front

The Palestine Liberation Front (also known as the Palestinian Liberation Front) was founded in 1977 when it split from the PFLP – General Command over its support for Syria in the Lebanese civil war. The group is best known to Americans for its 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship, during which the hijackers killed wheelchair-bound Jewish passenger Leon Klinghoffer. In the late 1980s, the group was folded into the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Despite publicly agreeing not to use terrorism in the 1990s, it still claimed attacks against Israel during the 2000s. The group has not claimed an attack since 2010, according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

PLF is designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. and Canada.
