Montana Freemen

The Montana Freemen were a group of anti-government extremist sovereign citizens based in eastern Montana led by LeRoy Schweitzer. Its main activity was to create and distribute fictitious financial instruments bearing names such as "comptroller's warrants." In 1996, the Montana Freeman garnered significant attention when they engaged in an armed standoff with the FBI that lasted 81 days before their ultimate surrender. This marked the end of the group.
