Hebrews to Negroes

The 2018 film Hebrews to Negroes, based on director Ronald Dalton Jr.’s book series of the same name, attempts to “prove” the Black Hebrew Israelite (BHI) belief that Black people are the true descendants of the biblical Israelites. The film amplifies antisemitic tropes and conspiracy theories, including beliefs commonly found among extremist factions of the BHI movement, such as the claim that modern Jews are imposters who stole the religious heritage of Black people and have engaged in a “cover-up” to prevent Black people from knowing their “true” identity. To support its claims about the supposedly manipulative and greedy nature of Jewish people, the film cites statements from prominent antisemites and notorious antisemitic texts, including passages from Henry Ford’s “The International Jew” and two purported (though seemingly fabricated) quotes from Adolf Hitler.
