Hate Symbol
A hate symbol is a symbol, logo, image or meme, acronym, number, coded word or term or short slogan or phrase intended to 1) invoke hatred, anger or fear towards people of certain racial, ethnic, religious or national backgrounds; or of specific genders or sexual orientations; 2) to portray such targeted groups of people negatively; and/or 3) to promote or support a movement, group or subculture with a belief system/ ideology centered around antipathy towards one or more such targeted groups. Because many symbols have multiple and different meanings or uses, a symbol may serve as a hate symbol in one context but have a very different meaning in other contexts.
