Edgar Welch

Edgar Welch is the perpetrator of the December 4, 2016 shooting at the Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in Washington, D.C. No one was injured during the incident. Welch told police he had come to investigate claims that the pizzeria was harboring child sex slaves in its basement (the restuarant does not have a basement) as part of a global child sex trafficking ring after reading about such theories online. Welch pled guilty to a federal charge of interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition, and a District of Columbia charge of assault with a dangerous weapon in 2017; he was sentenced to four years in prison and was released in 2021.
