Robert J. Mathews

Robert J. Mathews (1953-1984) was the leader of the white supremacist terrorist group The Order (also known as the Silent Brotherhood or Brüder Schweigen) which operated primarily in the Pacific Northwest in the 1980s. Following the arrests of many members of The Order, Mathews died in a fiery firefight with federal authorities in Washington state in 1984. Many white supremacists acknowledge the December date Mathews died as "martyrs day."
