Richard Butler
Richard Butler (1918-2004) was a California engineer and "pastor" in the racist and antisemitic religious sect Christian Identity. In 1974 he moved to Idaho to found Aryan Nations, a neo-Nazi group based on Christian Identity principles. From the 1970s through the 1990s, he was one of the most prominent leaders of the white supremacist movement. Many members and associates of Aryan Nations committed violent acts during these years. By the end of the 1990s, illness and advanced age greatly hampered his ability to run Aryan Nations, which began to dissolve into feuding factions, a process that continued after Butler"s 2004 death.
