Overton Window

The Overton Window, a concept originated by and named for policy analyst Joseph Overton, describes the degree of reception a society may have to certain opinions and ideas and thus the political viability of such concepts.. A shifting window may indicate an expanding (or decreasing, depending on the direction of shift) acceptance by mainstream society of certain extremist beliefs or ideologies.
